About Borgo Tramonte

The origins of the hamlet date back centuries, when the site was home to a small rural settlement mainly dedicated to farming and shepherding. The stone houses, built according to traditional Tuscan architecture, served as homes for farming families and as shelters for animals and agricultural tools.

The layout of the hamlet — with its homes, farmyards and surrounding cultivated land — reflected the traditional model of a self-sufficient mountain economy.

During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Papiano and the surrounding area were densely inhabited. With the gradual depopulation of the countryside, many families moved down to the valley or to the cities, leaving the ancient buildings abandoned.

In later years, Borgo Tramonte underwent careful and respectful architectural restoration aimed at preserving its historic identity and its bond with the surrounding area. The original structures in local stone were restored while preserving their volumes, wooden beams and typical elements of Tuscan tradition, while also integrating modern comforts for welcoming guests.
